Wisconsin Approves Lake Superior Commercial Buy-Out

Payment to retired licensees will be made from sport fishing licensed segregated account

WNRB approved order no. 25.03(1)a and NR 25.03(1) reducing the 21 state commercial fishing licenses to 10 and the total Lake trout quota or annual harvest limit for non-Tribal commercial fishers on Lake Superior from 13,600 fish to 6,480.

The board made it clear that the license retirement was not based upon recognition to a property right for license quotas.

New York DEC Commissioner Resigns

His 22 month tenure was often stormy as radical environmental groups constantly attacked him.
Dr. Micheal Zagata has resigned effective December 31st. Zagata was a true supporter of sportsmen's rights " we are concerned that the long term effect of his resignation could prove detrimental to the New York Sportsman"

DEC General Council John Cahill will be filling his role as interim commissioner.
