How was fishing this year? Here's more of what you had to say.

Chicago River & Chicago Lake front - Lake Michigan

roman4.jpg (48679 bytes)roman3.jpg (137487 bytes)   Fishing on my home town lake and river has been GREAT! The smallmouth fishery in the main lake has been pretty decent this year and getting better each year, but the angler has to figure out the fishing pattern. I've had the pleasure of scouting the Chicago River for several years now for bass and let me tell you the late mayor Richard Daley Sr. would be proud of the Chicago River fishery. Here are a few photos that are worth a thousand words. FISH ON ! Angel Roman, President, Chi-Town Bassmasters

       Henderson Harbor, Lake Ontario, NY

Growing up on the eastern basin of Lake Ontario I can recall years back as a boy going fishing with my father and catching hundreds of yellow perch along with as many small mouth bass as you can imagine.   The area has again rebounded in the last few years. The fishery has always been known as a great small mouth bass fishery.  Last year I had one of the most enjoyable fishing days that I have had in many years.  I used a local guide service out of Henderson Harbor and went out for a day with my father, brother, and a couple of friends.  We ended up limiting out on black bass in the morning and then trolled by one of the local islands for a couple of hours and also caught several walleyes in the same day.   As far as I can tell the bass and walleye fishery is as strong as it has ever been. Kim G. Allen, Lake Ontario Fisheries Coalition

Two Rivers, WI - Lake Michigan

Location. Location. Location. Fishing off the Port of Two Rivers on Lake Michigan is the best it has been in almost 15 years. It began with a bang on the 4th of July and ended in September.  King Salmon running 18-25 lbs, were the catch of the day. Coho were in the 12 lb class, and Steelhead were in the 10-12 lbs class.  With this kind of action. the catch per angler hour had to increase. Dan Pawlitzke, Two Rivers Charter Fishin

       Big Green Lake, WI

Cisco ice fishing is on top of my list for angler sports in Wisconsin.  While I am fortunate enough to enjoy many other kinds of fantastic fishing throughout the year,  there's something extra special about this traditional winter adventure on Big Green Lake.   For the past three years, on Valentine's Day weekend, my husband and I have had reservations at the Oakwood Lodge Bed & Breakfast and we combine romance with awesome fishing!   Before the crack of dawn, we're on the ice with our holes drilled and Vexilars in place.  We use Swedish pimples or predator spoons for lures and a light jigging action.   I love seeing schools of fish 8' thick on the multi-colored Vexilar screen in contrast with the snow on the ice,  feeling the tug of a hungry 12"-15" Cisco, and seeing it pop out of the icy water and flop all over the ice.   Sometimes, I'm surprised and a lake trout surfaces rather than a Cisco.  The adrenaline starts and I am hooked!   We usually get our limit by mid-morning and then head back to the lodge for a delicious homemade breakfast/brunch which we eat on the indoor veranda that overlooks the lake.               Eighteen mile Creek/Burt Dam, NY

Tributary action was arguably the best ever, with piles of browns, steelhead and salmon showing up below Burt Dam in October and continuing through the month of November.  A local conservation officer with more than 30 years on the force commented it's been the most fish he's ever seen there - ever!  At least one line class record was applied for, a 12 8 lb. brown taken on 2 lb. tippet.

25 million more guns helped produce a 40% drop in crime

WASHINGTON, DC -- Gun-related crime has plunged 40% in recent years while the number of guns in circulation has reached an all-time high, according to a new study by the U.S. Department of Justice.
"The message is clear: More guns equal less crime," said Harry Browne, the Libertarian Party's presidential candidate. "The biggest threat to your safety isn't guns; it's politicians who want to restrict gun ownership." Data released by the FBI shows that gunshot wounds inflicted during crimes dropped to 39,400 from 64,100 nationwide between 1992 and 1997 -- a drop of 40%.
But during the same five years, the number of guns in America surged to 230 million from 205 million, according to the National Association of Federally Licensed Firearms Dealers.
"The three most violent cities in America -- New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles -- all have something in common: Gun control," Browne said. "According to the FBI figures, these three cities led the nation in murder, armed robbery, and assault. And no wonder. In those cities, it's illegal to carry a concealed weapon. Politicians who refuse to repeal these laws are painting a target on the backs of innocent Americans."
Another shocking truth about gun control laws, Browne said, is that even politicians don't favor them -- for themselves.
