The Ohio Smallmouth Alliance (TOSA) is an organization of anglers and conservationists dedicated to improving smallmouth bass fishing in Ohio's watersheds through education, habitat preservation and responsible management. Anglers must work together to improve their fishing; by working as a united group, we can accomplish far more than by acting alone. Smallmouth bass (micropterus dolomieu) are one of the most popular fish species in Ohio. Anglers who fish for buckeye bronzebacks in Lake Erie, the Ohio River, and the thousands of miles of streams in between do so with good reason. In his classic Book of the Black Bass, Dr. J.A. Henshall praised the smallmouth bass as ``inch for inch and pound for pound the gamest fish that swims." The Ohio Smallmouth Alliance could not agree more!

Formed in 1993, The Ohio Smallmouth Alliance (TOSA) is an organization of anglers dedicated to improving smallmouth bass fishing in Ohio's watersheds through education, habitat preservation, and responsible management. TOSA was formed because Ohio's smallmouth fisheries face serious problems - many waters suffer from habitat degradation, while others hold few large fish because of over-harvest and outdated fishing regulations. Since its inception TOSA has been an active advocate on water quality issues that affect our sport and has played a key role in Ohio's historic special regulations program for stream smallmouth bass that was implemented in 1998.

Why join The Ohio Smallmouth Alliance? First and foremost your membership fuels a growing commitment by Ohio anglers to improve the sport of smallmouth bass fishing. In addition, TOSA members receive our official newsletter of The Ohio Smallmouth Alliance, Ohio Smallmouth News, containing timely and valuable info about our favorite fish. Members also participate in many activities including regular meetings with interesting guest speakers, river cleanups, conservation projects, group fishing outings to some of Ohio's best smallie waters, and much more!

Anglers must work together to improve smallmouth bass fishing in Ohio - by working as a group we can accomplish far more than by acting alone. The Ohio Smallmouth Alliance is expanding across the state with a growing membership. We welcome all those who are interested in protecting and improving their sport to join us!

You are welcome to attend our regular meetings which are held on the third Thursday of the month from January through May, and September through November (8 meetings per year). TOSA meetings begin at 7:00 p.m.

  • Regular one year membership $18.00
  • Regular two year membership $32.00
  • Bronzeback Level one year membership $25.00
  • Bronzeback Level two year membership $40.00
