Quantum Tour KVD Baitcast Reel

Touts 7.3 gear ratio and self-adjusting cast control

Professional bass angler Kevin Van Dam sets the bar high when it comes to performance expectations, and the newest baitcast reel in the Quantum lineup, the Tour KVD Baitcast Reel, is without a doubt the best ever in the brand's highly popular PT "Performance Tuned" family.

The Tour KVD reel is built on a profile not much bigger than Quantum's 100-size baitcasters introduced in 2009, but holds a 200-size spool for increased line capacity, improved casting performance and higher inches per turn (IPT) retrieve ... the best of all worlds. As a result, Tour KVD is classified as a new 150 size and holds 145 yards of 12-lb. test, which is 35 more yards than the previous models. From there, things get even better.

The reel's frame, side covers and front support are machined aluminum. Drive gear and main shaft are ceramic-coated aluminum. Its 11 PT polymer-stainless bearing system provides super-smooth performance and the ultimate in corrosion resistance.

Earth shattering is Tour KVD's innovative new cast control, ACS 3. The proprietary Quantum centrifugal braking system automatically self-adjusts according to the needs of the cast up to the maximum level that the angler has selected.

What the ACS 3 technology means is that an angler can change casting presentations, such as going from a long-distance cast immediately to a short pitch, without having to adjust the setting whatsoever. Cast control settings are infinite among the 168-degree rotation of the Tour KVD external dial.

Also new is Quantum's 7.3:1 extra high-speed gear ratio. At this ratio, Tour KVD has the highest IPT (inches per turn) of any baitcast reel in its class, 34". The reel's handle is made of seven layers of lightweight carbon fiber with large ergonomic paddles.

The reel also has the finest drag system and highest lockdown among all freshwater baitcast reels. That's because it is a layered PT ceramic drag system just like the one found in Quantum's proven PT saltwater models.

Tour KVD is available in three right-hand models: Burner XS 7.3:1, Speed SS 6.6:1, and Power 5.4:1. Reel weight is 8.5 ounces.

Quantum Energy SS Baitcast Reel

Energy SS defines Performance Tuned

Energy PT baitcast reels have been a workhorse in the Quantum product lineup from the earliest beginnings of the Performance Tuned family, and each new generation since has truly symbolized what the PT concept is all about – continual improvement toward the never-ending pursuit of perfection. Enter now, the Energy PT SS baitcast reel, the next and highest level of Energy achievement to date.

The Energy PT SS Baitcast reel is built on Quantum’s brand new 150-size frame, making it only slightly larger than last year’s lighter and smaller 100-size Quantum baitcasters, but with greater line capacity more like that found in bigger 200-size reels. The SS stands for Super Speed because both new models in the series feature new high-speed gear sets to deliver smokin’ hot retrieve speeds: 6.6:1 and 7.3:1.

In translation to angler lingo, 7.3:1 means for every turn of the reel’s handle, an amazing 34 inches of line is retrieved. That is nearly one yard per crank, and it is the fastest retrieve of all reels in this class.

Also new to Energy SS is ACS3 Cast Control, a self-adjusting centrifugal braking system that applies brakes up to the angler’s setting of choice, but only if any given cast needs that much braking. For example, if an angler makes a short pitch and the spool speed doesn’t ramp up enough to need the braking level the angler has selected, then no brakes will be applied. However, if on the next throw the angler rears back and launches a long cast, then the amount of brakes selected will automatically be engaged when the spool speed reaches that level of need.

Like all previous Quantum ACS systems, adjusting the brakes is as simple as turning the cast control dial located on the outside of the reel; no disassembly of the reel is required. Infinite settings are allowed top to bottom throughout the dial’s full 168-degree range.

Additionally, Energy SS has a layered PT ceramic drag system like the ones proven in the brand’s saltwater reels. The combination of carbon fiber with ceramic discs results in a higher lock down and smoother drag performance.  The reel also gets a newly designed capless, one-piece screw-on handle. Further secured by a stainless steel ratchet, the handle will never loosen or fall off during retrieve or transportation.

The Energy SS features an aluminum frame, side covers and spool, and has a 9 PT Polymer-Stainless ball bearing system. The reel comes in two right hand models, distinguished by either 6.6:1 or 7.3:1 gear ratios.  Reel weight is 8.5 oz; line capacity is 145 yds of 12 lb. test.

Quantum Kinetic PT Baitcast Reel

Makes its baitcast debut

Kinetic PT spinning reels have enjoyed a loyal angler following for years as part of Quantum’s quality Performance Tuned family, but now Kinetic crosses over into the PT baitcast lineup for the first time too.

Kinetic PT baitcast reels feature an aluminum frame, gear side cover, front support and spool, with all coming together on Quantum’s new 100-size platform introduced last year. With 7 PT Polymer-Stainless bearings, Kinetic is positioned between Accurist PT and Catalyst PT in features and price.

Kinetic PT sports specially tweaked bearings and gears to deliver the ultimate in fishing reel performance. Available in both right and left hand models, all versions have PT’s proven ACS2 external adjustable cast control system for easy management of the reel’s centrifugal brakes.

There’s also the Super Free spool pinion design that puts the angler in charge of every lure presentation and PT’s dual-bearing Continuous Anti-Reverse to assure rock-solid hooksets. The reel’s ceramic drag system is as smooth as they come. The Kinetic PT is available in two gear ratios: 6.3:1 and 7:1.

All Kinetic PT baitcast reels have the same line capacity, holding 160 yds of 10 lb. test. Reel weight is 8.1 oz.

Quantum Accurist PT Baitcaster

Returns to number one spot

The old adage “absence makes the heart grow fonder” couldn’t be any truer than in the case of Accurist PT as the reel returns to its spot as the entry price point in Quantum’s popular lineup of PT “Performance Tuned” baitcasters. And it is in its best shape ever with a leaner, harder body, and is still the only PT model with a flipping switch.

The Accurist PT Baitcaster has an aluminum frame and gear side cover, and a 5 PT Polymer-Stainless bearing system. It also has a best-in-class ceramic drag system, and proprietary Micro ACS2 external adjustable cast control, meaning the angler can adjust the reel’s centrifugal braking system with a simple click of the dial.

Like all PT models, the Accurist PT Baitcaster gets souped-up bearings and gears, and comes lubricated with Quantum’s Hot Sauce oil and grease. Now built on Quantum’s 100-size frame, Accurist PT weighs in at 8.1 oz, trimming down a little from its former self in spite of the aluminum beef-up. The Accurist PT comes in left and right hand models, in two gear ratios: 6.3:1 and 7:1. Line capacity on all models is 145 yards of 12 lb. test.

Quantum Reax PT Baitcast Reel

The new Quantum Reax Baitcast Reel is truly something special. It is gorgeous, sleek, all metal, fast, self-adjusting and holds more line than previous models.

Reax PT is one of three brand new reels built on Quantum’s newest 150-size baitcast reel platform. In a nutshell, it’s like having a 100-size reel by weight and overall footprint, but with the line capacity of a 200-size reel.

Quality and durability are obvious at first glance of the Quantum Reax Baitcast Reel aluminum frame, side covers and front support, but that’s only the beginning. What you can’t see are all of the regular PT-family features, including the reel’s 7 PT Polymer-Stainless bearings, dual-bearing Continuous Anti-Reverse, strong but lightweight gears, and Hot Sauce lubrication.

Totally new is Reax’s automatic infinite ACS3 Cast Control. The ACS3 system incorporates dual functioning brake weights that move the spool into the brake ring as needed according to spool speed and the angler’s brake setting of choice. That means brakes are applied as needed, but there’s no braking when it’s not required, on a cast-by-cast basis.

Cast control settings for the centrifugal brake system are infinite throughout the full 168-degree range of the reel’s external adjustable dial. The advantages of the self-adjusting ACS3 are fewer backlashes, less reel adjustments throughout the day and enhanced casting performances by reel and angler.

Also new and improved are Reax’s gear set, resulting in higher IPT (inches per turn). Within the two gear ratios available - 7.3:1 and 6.6:1 – the extra high speed 7.3:1 model is the industry’s top in line retrieve by gobbling up 34 inches of line with every full turn of the handle. And whether cranking slow or burning fast, Reax’s capless one-piece handle will never loosen thanks to a screw-on design secured by a stainless steel ratchet.

Reax has a best-of-the-best in baitcast drags too, featuring a layered PT ceramic drag system that combines carbon fiber with ceramic discs to result in higher lock down and a smoother performance. Reax PT has a best-of-the-best in baitcast drags too, featuring a layered PT ceramic drag system that combines carbon fiber with ceramic discs to result in a higher lock down and smoother performance.

Reax PT weighs 8.5 ounces and hold 145 yards of 12 lb. test.

Quantum Custom Shop Tour Elite Rods

The next best thing to having some of their DNA

Armed with the bright red prototypes for his not-yet-released Tour cranking series, KVD stole the show at the Bassmaster Elite Series Bluegrass Brawl in 2008 and launched a new era of rod-making at Quantum.

Dean Rojas was the first to call. "What are those red rods Kevin's using? Think you could build me something special for slinging a frog? I have some ideas." The calls and e-mails poured in, and we soon found that many of our pros had special requests — from the action, length and blank material to the guides and grip style.

The Quantum Custom Shop was born.

Quantum assembled their designers and spent months in the lab fine-tuning these rods to the exact specifications of each pro angler. What they have in their boats today are more than technique-specific, they are the-man-and-his-technique-specific — every aspect optimized for absolute mastery of their bread-and-butter applications. That being said, these rods are not for everyone. They are built specifically for those who demand highly specialized equipment, custom-matched to the elevated skills of the world's best. And now, on a limited basis, these Custom Rods are available, ordered directly through our web site only.

We're honored to have a pro staff that includes the top professional anglers in the sport of bass fishing. These 14 rods are a testament to their individual skills as well as our rod-making expertise — and we’re proud to make them available.

Every Custom Rod starts with a face-to-face meeting between the professional angler and one of our designers. They start with a blank sheet of paper and build the rod from the ground up. With a pro staff that consists of the most driven, highly skilled professionals in bass fishing, the particulars of each rod in this series are mind-boggling.

Blank material. Action. Length. Guide style and positioning. Cork or EVA grips and placement. Once the design is completed, it's optimized in our world-class testing facility. In the lab, we can analyze strength, flex, castability, and durability, but the ultimate measure of performance is competition on the professional tournament trail. It's there that our pros can truly evaluate the overall design and recommend changes until they say its right.

Only then will they put their name on it. And we wouldn't have it any other way.
