 Minn Kota® Four-Bank Charger MK 440

For 2004, Minn Kota is introducing a new four-bank on-board charger, a new automatic temperature compensation feature on all its on-board battery chargers, a portable marine charger, and a remote battery monitor (available in either a two- or three-bank model).

"Our goal is to provide anglers with a complete trolling system that matches their power management needs to their Minn Kota trolling motor," Minn Kota Brand Manager of New Product Development and Accessories Jeff Davison said. "The reputation we have built for quality and innovation in trolling motors now extends to our power management products."

The addition of the new MK 440 four-bank on-board battery charger now gives Minn Kota® a full range of on-board charger products with outputs from one to four banks. The MK 440 has 10 amps output per bank for 40 amps of total output.

Like all Minn Kota on-board chargers, the MK 440 features fully automatic three-stage charging…bulk, absorption and maintenance. "By properly and automatically controlling current and voltage during the three stages of charging, our on-board chargers not only recharge faster but they also prevent overcharging," Davison said. "Overcharging can damage and shorten battery life, so multi-stage charging is essential in extending the life of a battery."

Minn Kota® DeckHand™ 40 and DeckHand 20 Electric Winches

RACINE, Wis.  - Several new features are offered on Minn Kota's® DeckHand™ 40 and DeckHand 20 electric winches being introduced for 2004. The new products give consumers the option of going with a 40 lb or 20 lb anchor- capacity winch.

Minn Kota® DeckHand 40

The new DeckHand 40 (DH-40) features a universal davit (anchor rest) that stows the anchor horizontally. This design eliminates anchor swing in the stowed position which reduces stress on the winch and extends the life of the product. The universal davit can be mounted to the base of the DeckHand or remote location on the deck of the boat.

Minn Kota's exclusive auto-deploy system on the DH-40 lowers the anchor into the water with the touch of a button, then automatically stops the winch when the anchor touches bottom. The special anti-drag system creates an "auto drift" feature by releasing the rope on the anchor when tension is applied. Drifting can be prevented by simply pushing the button that locks the winch.

The new gear system on the DH-40 includes larger diameter gears with increased number of teeth for improved strength and life of the unit. The integrated shear pin design protects the spool and gear case (a replacement shear pin is included inside the winch cover).

Other important features of the DH-40 include: a manual circuit breaker that protects the motor and electronics against electrical burnout, a safety lock that prevents inadvertent deployment of anchor during transport, an anchor shackle that allows easy removal of the anchor, and 40 lb anchor capacity (anchor not included) that works with CrabClaw™ and most other anchor styles.

The DH-40 utilizes the same hole pattern as previous Minn Kota DeckHand models (DH-18 and DH-35), allowing current DeckHand customers the opportunity to upgrade. The hole pattern is also compatible with Minn Kota's PD/AP quick release bracket mount (MKA-16-02, sold separately) for convenient, quick removal of the DeckHand unit.

The DH-40 operates on a 12-volt battery system, is pre-spooled with 100' of 800 lb test rope and has a two-year warranty.

About  $269.99

For console operation, a 25 ft corded remote switch is available as an option about  $39.99

Minn Kota's new DeckHand-20 (DH-20) has a redesigned motor that delivers higher torque than previous models. The new manual circuit breaker protects the motor and electronics from electrical burnout.

Minn Kota's exclusive auto-deploy system on the DH-20 lowers the anchor into the water with the touch of a button, then automatically stops the winch when the anchor touches bottom. The special anti-drag system creates an "auto drift" feature by releasing the rope on the anchor when tension is applied. Drifting can be prevented by simply pushing the button that locks the winch.

The hole pattern of the DH-20 is consistent with DH-40, as well as older DeckHand models.

About Minn Kota Motors

Minn Kota is the oldest manufacturer of electric fishing motors in the world with 68 years of hard-earned experience in the lab and on the water. Throughout our history, Minn Kota has led the way in product innovation and cutting edge technology.

The Minn Kota electric trolling motor began its life in 1934 in Fargo, North Dakota. Mr. O.G. Schmidt, inventor of the trolling motor, was known to be a man of many diverse ideas. Prior to the trolling motor, Schmidt invented, produced and sold a copper soldering torch from his home in Wheatland, N. Dakota. Due to its success, manufacturing operations were then moved to Fargo. Because of its proximity to the MINNesota-North DaKOTA border, Mr. Schmidt named the business The Minn Kota Manufacturing Company.

Although the brand Minn Kota has become synonymous throughout the world with trolling motors, many other products have also carried the name. The Minn Kota Manufacturing Company manufactured utilitarian products such as commercial vacuum cleaners, rock pickers, and straw choppers. Some of the earliest Minn Kota trolling motors produced used Ford Motor Co. Model A starter motors. Unlike today’s motors, these first units were designed with the motor out of the water.

During WWII Minn Kota joined the war effort by producing parts for automatic pilots installed in fighter planes. In February of 1946, the company moved its operations to Moorhead, Minnesota.

Upon Mr. Schmidt’s death in 1965, Ole Rommesmo took over Minn Kota Manufacturing Company and concentrated on recapturing the electric fishing motor business. In 1969, Johnson Reels of Mankato, Minnesota, purchased the company. Trolling motors opened a whole new realm of related product possibilities for Johnson Reels, already known for its fishing rods, reels and lures.

In 1970, Johnson Reels and Minn Kota trolling motors were acquired by a subsidiary of Johnson Wax, Johnson Diversified Inc., known today as Johnson Outdoors Inc. Minn Kota motor production moved to Mankato, Minnesota in 1979, where it is still located.

Today, Minn Kota is the unquestioned leader in the trolling motor industry, enjoying dominant market share in both bow-mount and transom-mount motors.
