Smith & Wesson introduces new & Innovative products
Smith & Wesson, the legendary, 154-year old firearms maker has an exciting line of new and innovative products. Their 2006 product line offers more choices for target shooting, hunting, personal protection and for law enforcement and military applications. They range from the expansion of the Military & Police Series to the newly introduced 1911 Tactical Rail Series. This year, several commemorative firearms have been developed along with new introductions by the Smith & Wesson Performance Center.

Smith & Wesson Military & Police Pistol Series Full Size 9mm, .40 S&W and .357 Autos available Smith & Wesson has expanded the Military & Police Pistol Series with the introduction of the M&P 9mm and M&P .357 SIG. Both polymer pistols are now available in a full size model and offer a number of distinctive features that provide ultimate durability, safety and versatility.
For enhanced durability, the M&P has a Zytel polymer frame reinforced with a ridged steel chassis and a thru-hardened black melonite stainless steel barrel and slide. This combination of features provides unparalleled shootability and dramatically reduces felt recoil. The M&P 9mm has a capacity of 17+1 while the .40 S&W and .357 SIG have a capacity of 15+1. The M&P Pistol Series utilizes a steel dovetail mount front sight and a steel Novak Lo-mount carry rear sight.
Tritium sights are also available for low light conditions. A universal Picatinny style equipment rail has been incorporated for tactical lights and lasers. The pistols have an overall length of 7.5" with a barrel length of 4.25" and an unloaded weight of 24.25 oz. The striker fired action (SFA) trigger system features a 6 .5 lb. trigger pull and has been designed with an over travel stop for enhanced performance.
Another distinct feature that separates the M&P line from other polymer pistols is that it does not require the user to press the trigger in order to field strip the firearm. The new trigger mechanism features a lever, easily reached through the ejection port, that when pressed releases the tension on the sear while directing the user’s attention to the chamber in order to help insure that the firearm is unloaded and safe.
For added safety, a loaded chamber indicator is located on the top of the slide. An internal lock system is optional for military and law enforcement. Other notable features include three interchangeable palmswell grip sizes, an 18-degree grip angle for natural pointability, an advanced ergonomic design, an ambidextrous slide stop and a reversible magazine catch.

Smith & Wesson Model SW1911PD and SW1911 Tactical Rail Series Smith & Wesson has added two new editions to its SW1911 family with the newly released Tactical Rail Series. Developed to fulfill the needs of SWAT Teams and other tactical applications, both the Smith & Wesson Model SW1911PD and SW1911 incorporate a universal Picatinny-style rail with a standard 1911 configuration.
The single-action .45 ACP pistols feature 5" barrels and hold eight rounds in the magazine plus one in the chamber. Each pistol comes standard with a white dot front sight and a Novak Lo Mount Carry rear sight. Both models are manufactured with an external extractor for high reliability and a full-length guide rod. Two 8-round magazines are packaged with both pistols.
The Model SW1911PD features a durable Scandium Alloy frame with a black anodized finish., and is manufactured with a stainless steel slide and melonite finish, which yields a surface hardness of 68HRc. Weighing 32 oz, the Model SW1911PD offers professionals a lightweight, easy to carry package. The Model SW1911 is manufactured with a stainless steel frame and slide. The pistol is standard with a non-reflective matte grey finish. The SW1911 weighs 39 oz.

Performance Center 9mm - In Matte Finish with Polished Accents or Matte Finish with Heavy Slide The Smith & Wesson Performance Center offers competitive shooters the ideal precision-made, competition-ready handgun with the introduction of two versions of the Model 952 Long Slide. The 952 is available with polished accents or a heavy slide.
The single-action stainless steel pistols have a capacity of nine rounds plus one in the chamber of the versatile 9mm ammunition. Both pistols feature a match grade, precision honed 6" rifled barrel. For increased accuracy and durability, each pistol comes standard with a titanium coated spherical barrel bushing. The Model 952 is manufactured with a hand-throated chamber along with a hand-lapped frame and slide rails.
A dovetail black patridge front sight and a Wilson micro adjustable rear sight are standard. The hand-polished pistols also feature a maximum lock time for optimum accuracy along with a two-piece walnut checkered panel grip. Each Model 952 pistol is shipped with two magazines plus an aluminum Performance Center gun case.
The Model 952 with a matte finish and polished accents weighs 39.2 oz while the Model 952 with a matte finish and heavy slide weighs 40.5 oz.

Smith & Wesson Model 327 TRR8 - 8 round revolver Performance Center Rail Gun chambered for .357 Magnum/.38 S & W Special The Smith & Wesson Performance Center introduces the new Model 327 TRR8. Chambered for .357 Magnum or .38 S&W Special, the Model 327 is designed to provide demanding shooters and working professionals with the high reliability of a Smith & Wesson revolver along with a wide range of options for mounting optics, lights, laser aiming devices and other tactical equipment.
Known the world over for their unique design and uncompromising quality, the Smith & Wesson Performance Center has given greater flexibility to the revolver through the use of removable accessory Picatinny-style rails. The traditional double-action revolver features a Scandium Alloy frame, steel cylinder and a 5" two-piece shrouded steel barrel. The Model 327 TRR8 has an eight-round capacity, smooth Performance Center double-action and a crisp single-action trigger pull. The 327 has an overall length of 10½" and an unloaded weight of 35.3 oz.
Other Model 327 TRR8 features include a precision barrel forcing cone, polished button polygonal rifling for more shots with less fouling, optimum barrel and cylinder gap, ball and detent cylinder lockup and chamfered charge holes. The revolver is standard with two full moon clips, black glassbead finish and rubber grips.

A Performance Center X-treme Velocity Revolver The Smith & Wesson Performance Center has introduced two new editions of the Model 460XVR (X-treme Velocity Revolver).
The fine-tuned Model 460XVR is now available in both a 10 ½" and 12" barrel. With the addition of a longer barrel, the revolvers benefit from increased velocity and energy, measured at over 2,550 fps with a 200-grain bullet. For handgun hunters everywhere, this increased velocity dramatically enhances accuracy making the 460XVR the ideal choice when heading into the outdoors. The revolver has highest muzzle velocity of any production revolver.
The Performance Center revolvers retain original X-Frame features including a crisp single-action and smooth double-action trigger, 5-round capacity cylinder and stainless steel construction. Both revolvers and the entire 460XVR series offer shooters multi-caliber capabilities, accepting .460 S&W, .454 Casull and .45 Colt.
The 10½" 460XVR Compensated Hunter is manufactured with a full 360-degree muzzle compensator for exceptional recoil management, polished button rifling and an integral hardened Weaver base that provides a rugged platform for optics. The revolver has an empty weight of 82.5 oz and an overall length of 18". Featuring a brushed satin finish with matte accents, the Compensate Hunter is standard with an adjustable front sight, an interchangeable HI-VIZ green dot front sight along with an adjustable black blade rear sight.
The 12" 460XVR Magnum Hunter features an integral Picatinny style base on the top and bottom of the fluted barrel, a traditional pinned sear and a bi-pod attachment. The Magnum Hunter is standard with a brushed polished stainless finish, a removable patridge front sight, an adjustable black rear sight and an unloaded weight of 80 oz.
Other features on both revolvers include Hogue Dual Density Monogrips and a flashed chromed forged hammer and trigger. The Performance Center models also feature an internal lock and are shipped with a shoulder sling for convenient carrying along with a Performance Center gun rug.

Smith & Wesson has introduced a new edition to the X-frame series of handguns designed to provide avid shooters with even more versatility. The 460V, a traditional 460XVR with a 5" barrel, is the ideal choice when hunting or for personal protection. The revolver and the entire 460XVR series offer shooters multi-caliber capabilities, accepting .460 S&W, .454 Casull and .45 Colt.
